CHEQUES for millions of ringgit were issued by Najib Razak to several Umno branches, Barisan Nasional (BN) and individuals from 2011 to 2012, the Kuala Lumpur High Court heard today.

Testifying in the convicted former prime minister’s 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) trial, Badrul Hisham Mohamad, senior manager of AmBank’s cheque processing centre, verified that 38 transactions totalling RM8.4 million were made by the Pekan MP.

Selangor Umno received RM2 million in two payments in 2011 and 2012 while its women’s wing got RM1.1 million in March 2012 and RM800,000 in September 2011.

Machang Umno received RM400,000; Najib’s Pekan Umno branch, RM330,000; and the Bandar Tun Razak BN chapter, RM200,000, in March 2012.

Among the people who benefited from Najib were Khairuddin Mahmud (RM30,000), Zaleha Kamid (RM5,000), Norhayati Abdullah (RM5,000), former political secretary Wong Nai Chee (RM30,000), former land and cooperative development minister Kasitah Gaddam (RM100,000) and former human resources minister Richard Riot (RM100,000).

Najib is facing four charges of using his position as then prime minister to obtain bribes totalling RM2.3 billion from 1MDB funds and 21 charges of money laundering involving the same amount.

He is already serving a 12-year jail term after failing in his final appeal at the Federal Court in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case.

Hisham, who is the prosecution’s 36th witness, also testified that six companies received a total of RM1,428,250.

It was reported yesterday that Najib’s AmIslamic Bank account had been used to issue 13 cheques for more than RM1.28 million within the six months of March to August 2011.

Hisyam confirmed the 13 cheques issued from Najib’s AmIslamic Bank account (with the account number 211-202-200969-4) at the bank’s Jalan Raja Chulan branch and which had all carried Najib’s signature.

Najib’s 1MDB trial continues tomorrow as the defence and prosecution will be at the 1MDB audit report tampering trial. – September 7, 2022.

  • Funny ya as the thief claims he isn't aware of the money that goes in to his personal account but happily issued out cheques. What an idiotic logic was that by a man who was assigned to look after the nation.

It goes without saying the party treasurer is just a dummy post as the treasurer has no real mandate to issue out cash to the party branches. With that how does umno who claims to be a big party accounts for its expenses, how do they reconciled for every ringgit received against every ringgit spends. I guess the whole lots of umno branches applies creative accounting with dummy invoices supporting it. So this is how they managed their party, can we also says that's how they managed the nation? Oh boy are we in deep shit but it's too bad as long as they played the race based issues and give ang pow to the kampung & felda folks their vote bank is secure and other matters doesn't count while they make their money while in office.
