Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been discharged from the National Heart Institute after undergoing treatment for Covid. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, September 4, 2022.

DR Mahathir Mohamad has been discharged from the National Heart Institute (IJN), his office said in a statement. 

He was admitted at the IJN after testing positive for Covid on August 31. 

The former prime minister was discharged at 9.30am today and will continue to be quarantined at home until Tuesday. 

The 97-year-old Langkawi MP was last in IJN on December 16 last year for a “full medical check-up and further observation”. 

Prior to that, in August 2016, he was admitted to IJN for the treatment of a chest infection. 

He suffered his first cardiac arrest in 1989, at the age of 64. Two more such attacks followed in 2006. A year later, he underwent quadruple bypass surgery.  

He was treated for all his heart ailments at IJN. – September 4, 2022.
