KEDAH people are urged to take the opportunity to purchase daily necessities at a lower price through the Keluarga Malaysia Cheap Sales programme.

Rural Development Ministry deputy secretary-general (policy) Che Murad Sayang Ramjan said the programme implemented until December 31 involves 52 businesses in the state.

“The ministry has been entrusted to help implement this programme in four states – Kedah, Perlis, Penang and Negri Sembilan. In Kedah, the Kedah Regional Development Authority was asked to select businesses in 36 constituencies to carry out the programme.

“This programme is held twice a week, on Saturdays and Sundays. Allocations have been given to each state and parliamentary constituency, which will be used to provide discounts on selected items including chicken, fish, eggs, cooking oil and rice,” he told reporters after visiting business premises at Jalan Langgar in Alor Setar today.

He said premises selected to implement the programme are encouraged to give discounts of up to 20% or more for the specified goods and other goods.

“During the visit today, it was found that goods sold at the premises are much cheaper than the market price. For example, 2kg of cooking oil, whose original price is RM14.70, was sold for RM11.76, while 1.8kg of formula milk was sold for RM36.80 compared to its actual price of RM46.

“Items in the fresh produce section such as chicken, fish and vegetables are also cheap(er). The implementation of this programme can greatly benefit the locals, so, Kedahans, please come and purchase your essential needs at the selected premises,” he said. – Bernama, September 3, 2022.
