PAS will never a blind eye to corruption, money politics or patronage because they are against the teachings of Islam, party president Abdul Hadi Awang said today.

He said such actions are clearly wrong and sinful.

“PAS does not turn a blind eye to evils such as corruption, money politics, office-seeking politics, misbehaviour and mismanagement.

“And it will be sinful of us to support such actions in the name of (political) cooperation,” he said at the PAS muktamar in Alor Star.

He said PAS is ready to sit down with sincere parties to find a way to return to the true Islamic path.

He said that he would hand over all decision-making mandates related to law and policies, including the election strategy, to the party’s ulama council and leadership.

“This includes election candidates selection and all decisions after the polls to ensure that Islam continues to lead,” he said.

PAS had earlier this year decided not to work with Umno after the Malay party saw several of its leaders charged in court with corruption.

Last week, former Umno president Najib Razak began his 12-year jail sentence in Kajang Prison after his conviction and sentence for criminal breach of trust in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case were upheld by the Federal Court.

In addition, Najib will have to pay a RM210 million fine or serve another five years in jail.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is facing 47 charges – 12 counts of criminal breach of trust in relation to RM31 million of charitable foundation Yayasan Akalbudi’s funds, 27 counts of money laundering and eight counts of bribery. – September 3, 2022.
