FORMER prime minister Najib Razak’s sacrifices for Umno should not be in vain and, therefore, the party and Barisan Nasional (BN) must win big in the next general election, Ahmad Maslan said.
The Umno secretary-general said both Umno and BN should continue having Najib’s fiery spirit to win comfortably in the elections.
“Among others, solidarity means we stay together through thick and thin, during happy and hard times,” the Pontian MP was quoted as saying by Umno Online.
“In the latest issue, we express our disappointment over what happened to our former party president, former prime minister and BN adviser Najib.
“We are upset because we see that he was not given the due process of justice. Therefore, his ‘Bossku’ spirit must be continued by Umno and BN. Let’s not waste his sacrifice (even if he’s) in prison.
“So as a way for us to not let his sacrifice go to waste, it is important for Umno and BN to win big in GE15,” he said, referring to the next general election.
Last week, Najib was sent to Kajang Prison after the Federal Court quashed his appeal and upheld his sentence in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case.
In a unanimous decision, the apex court ordered the Pekan MP to start his 12-year jail sentence immediately.
Najib will also have to pay a RM210 million fine, in default of which he will have to serve another five years in prison.
Meanwhile, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has reiterated that GE15 should be held now because the people want a legitimate government that is not held together through political schemes.
He said there is a need to return the mandate to the people. – September 2, 2022.
