2,356 new Covid cases, 9 deaths

NEW Covid-19 cases rose for the third straight day yesterday, to 2,356.

Malaysia has logged 4.78 million infections since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

Nine virus deaths were reported yesterday, three of which were dead on arrival (DOA). 

The fatalities took place in Selangor, which reported three deaths, Sarawak (2), Sabah, Penang, Perlis and Pahang (one each)

The death toll stood at 36,225, of which 7,699 were DOA.

Selangor posted the most number of new infections with 775, followed by Kuala Lumpur (479) and Sabah (227). 

Other states and territories with new coronavirus patients were Perak (175), Negri Sembilan (127), Penang (104), Malacca (97), Johor (86), Sarawak (62), Pahang (59), Kelantan (49), Kedah (42), Terengganu (28), Putrajaya (25), Labuan (11) and Perlis (10). 

Active cases grew to 31,463 yesterday as 1,875 people recovered from the disease.

Among the active cases, 30,084 (95.6%) were in home quarantine, 20 (0.1%) in low-risk quarantine and treatment centres, and 1,285 (4.3%) in hospitals.

There were 74 patients in the intensive care units, 46 of whom required respiratory assistance. – September 2, 2022.
