PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli will be called up by the cops over his alleged defamatory statements towards Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Special Functions) Abdul Latiff Ahmad.

Sentul police chief Beh Eng Lai said the former lawmaker is being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 2008 for wrongful use of a network after a report was lodged by the minister’s aide.

“Rafizi will be called soon to record his statement and assist in investigations,” Beh said in a statement today.

Yesterday, Latiff’s aide lodged a police report against Rafizi after the ex-Pandan MP made several comments linking Latiff’s wife to the littoral combat ship (LCS) scandal.

Rafizi had also been active on Facebook and Twitter over how the scandal took place.

Rafizi had named Zainab Mohd Salleh, a woman whom he said is Latiff’s second wife – and someone who had been misappropriating funds from the LCS project.

Latiff has denied knowing the woman, as well as denying Zainab is his spouse.

According to Malaysiakini, Latiff’s special officer Sayed Ahmad Mu’izzuddin Al-Sayed Mohamad said Rafizi has persisted in his claims despite the minister’s explanation.

Among others, Sayed reiterated the minister’s claim that Rafizi is misleading the public by citing a draft forensic audit report to back his claims.

He said this disregarded a disclaimer contained in the report stating auditors were unable to assess the veracity of claims made by people involved in the project. – August 31, 2022.
