PUTRAJAYA has received a special committee’s report on the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said today.
The report was submitted to the government on August 30 following the committee’s nine-month probe.
“The task force completed the report on time as scheduled before August 31, 2022,” said Wan Junaidi, who heads the special committee, in a statement.
He added that the report has taken into account various perspectives and views from experts who have been appointed and representatives of relevant ministries and departments as well as agencies.
“This special committee has also implemented various initiatives to identify his cause of death, including interview sessions of case witnesses, review sessions of investigative documents at the committee’s war room, which were held almost every week.
“In addition, reconstruction of the incident was held with all relevant agencies to simulate the incident based on closed-circuit television (footage), video recordings, and statements from witnesses,” he said.
Wan Junaidi said the full report will be tabled to the cabinet in September.
“It is the government’s hope that this report can answer the public’s queries regarding this incident,” he stated.
Adib, who was an emergency medical rescue services member of the Subang Jaya fire and rescue station, suffered serious injuries during a riot outside a temple in USJ 25, Subang Jaya, on November 27, 2018.
He died on December 17, 2018, after 21 days at the National Heart Institute.
On September 27, 2019, the coroner’s court ruled that Adib’s death was due to a criminal act perpetrated by more than two unidentified individuals.
Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the setup of the special committee in October last year – just months after assuming office – and gave it six months to produce findings and recommendations to the cabinet.
On November 29 last year, Adib’s family received RM1.5 million in compensation from the government. – August 31, 2022.
