THE Ayuh Malaysia campaign, helmed by PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli, seeks to recruit at least 20,000 more volunteers to canvass support for Pakatan Harapan in the general election.

Rafizi said the campaign already has 10,000 volunteers.

He said the campaign events have enjoyed a good response.

“We received about 800 reservations for this event that was announced on Facebook even though the capacity of the venue is 500,” he told the media at the event “Merdeka Talk: Reimagining Malaysia’s Future by Ayuh Malaysia” at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre in Sentul yesterday.

“Similarly, we had 700 to 800 people at our truck ceramah, (figures) which I think PH have struggled to achieve in the past three to four years,”

Rafizi hoped this would be reflected in a strong voter turnout for the general election.

“Ideally, we want a voter turnout of 80%. We recorded a 56-57% voter turnout in the last two state elections, but if you motivate the voters, that may just come close to 80%,” he said. – August 27, 2022.

The event was part of a series of engagement sessions with volunteers focusing on problem-solving policies. The campaign is headed by Rafizi and Nurul Izzah Anwar.

“The volunteers are not party members. We have had about 10,000 volunteers since the campaign launched in March and we hope to push the figure up to 30,000 by year-end,” said Rafizi.

“Obviously people who come and listen to us are progressive like-minded people, so most probably they want to help PH.”

“The public engagement sessions, which focus on five core issues, will be continued even after the next general election,” he said, adding that the core issues were education, technical and vocational education and training, renewable energy, housing, and food security.

“We hope to attract younger through these engagements will attract the younger voters since the younger voters are the most disillusioned and they hate politicians,” said the former Pandan MP.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob is under intense pressure from his party to call a snap election at once.  He had previously said he was waiting for the economy to recover before dissolving parliament.

The current parliamentary session ends in July next year. – August 31, 2022.
