THE central leadership of Pakatan Harapan will today commence talks with the parties of the coalition to resolve stalled negotiations for state assembly seats in six states on the peninsula.

The seats in Terengganu, Kelantan, Perak, and Pahang are on the agenda of today’s meetings at Bersatu headquarters in Petaling Jaya.

Negotiations over Selangor and Malacca seats will take place after this, said Selangor Amanah chief Izham Hashim.

PH has concluded the distribution of parliamentary seats in West Malaysia among the four component parties: Bersatu will contest 52 seats; PKR, 51; DAP, 35; and Amanah, 27.

However, the PH presidential council had left it to the leaders of the four parties in the respective states to divvy up the state assembly seats among themselves. 

As the leaders had failed to reach a consensus, the central leadership was called to step in.

At the talks today, each party will be represented by two senior leaders and the respective state chairman.

Izham said Selangor Amanah would be represented by central committee members Khalid Samnd and Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.

In Selangor, Izham said state leaders had failed to meet the deadline of yesterday night for a consensus.

It is learnt that the party leaders in the negotiations could only agree on  30 out of 56 state seats in Selangor. These were seats that the individual parties had won in the last general election.

DAP holds 15 seats, PKR, 13, and Amanah, 2. The four parties could not resolve overlapping claims for the remaining 26 seats.

In the talks, PKR had demanded to contest 24 seats, DAP 17, Amanah  13 and Bersatu 12.

Previously, the PH central leadership had also been required to step in to resolve the allocation of state seats in Kedah and Penang. – February 26, 2018.
