DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng today asked whether the police will ever act against PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang for accusing non-Malays and non-Bumiputera of being the root for corruption in Malaysia.

The former finance minister said a multitude of police reports have been filed against Hadi throughout the country but the authorities have yet to take any action.

“Even Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M) president Muhammad Mohan has labelled Hadi racist and potentially seditious and urged the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to take action against him for making such an irresponsible statement.”

“The PAS president has remained unrepentant and unashamed that he poses a clear and present danger to Malaysian unity and integration between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak,” Lim said in a statement.

Hadi came under fire last week after he said that most perpetrators of corruption in Malaysia were non-Muslim and non-Bumiputera. He said only Muslims had integrity.

Lim had branded Hadi a racist opposed to racial unity.

Lim urged Malaysians not to be fool by Hadi’s rhetoric which preaches hate against minorities.

Lim today took the cabinet members to task over for their silence in response to Hadi.

“By not daring to get the cabinet to take a correct principled stand against Hadi’s hate speech, these ministers from MCA, MIC, GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) and GRS (Gabungan Rakyat Sabah) are condoning, emboldening and legitimatising Hadi’s hostility and hatred against non-Bumiputera and non-Muslims,” he said.

Yesterday several groups in Sarawak filed a police report against Hadi. They were the Sarawak Association for People’s Aspirations, Dayak Bukit Kelinkang, Persatuan Adat Asal Bidoyoh Sarawak, Sarawak Dayak Association, and SMETAP Society.

Meanwhile, DAP’s P. Ramasamy today called Hadi a “joker” who had to resort to bizarre statements because he had run out of ideas to appeal to voters.

Blaming the non-Malays as the source of corruption was one such instance.

“Hadi may have lost his sense of purpose and political balance; However, (this does not) give him the room to say whatever he wants.

“Perhaps the time has come for him to (become) a comedian,” Ramasamy said. – August 27, 2022.
