Umno to sue 2 news portals over ‘malicious’ reports

UMNO will be taking legal action against two media outlets over recent reports of high-level confrontations with the party, youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said. 

He said that the news reports by Malaysiakini and Astro Awani were slanderous and malicious. 

“The news was reported with the intention to create a negative perception of Umno. 

“I have contacted party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and discussed it with Umno lawyers, with a view to taking action against the two media organisations,” he said in a Facebook post today. 

Asyraf said that Malaysiakini and Astro Awani should have obtained information from authentic sources and not “internal sources” as reported, which he said was done in bad faith. 

Earlier this week, Astro Awani quoted a source saying a majority of Umno division leaders were against a proposal for Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who is also a party vice-president, to intervene in Najib Razak’s SRC International appeal.

Today, Malaysiakini quoted Umno and government sources as saying Ismail was told to hold the next general election soon or he would be expelled from the party.

The report claimed that the prime minister was issued the ultimatum during Umno’s political bureau meeting on Wednesday.

According to news portal Free Malaysia Today, Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan had said both the reports were fake.

He denied that party leaders had given Ismail an ultimatum, describing the report as “slander of the highest order”. – August 26, 2022.

  • Asyraf & Ahmad Mazlan enough talking just take the two news agency to the court as intended and make sure to see the court case see it through right till the end verdict. If you think you have a case why wait, umno stood behind two corrupted leaders and a couple of others itself has tainted umno that itself has projected umno with negative elements. Your two leaders hands were caught in the jar red handed and you are still dreaming that umno is so clean. There is nothing slanderous and malicious about what was reported.

  • What visage of UMNO reputation do you think is worth saving? . UMNO reputation has been soiled by your own leaders so you should take issue with them rather than harass the likes of Malaysiakini and Astro Awani. They are just doing their work and what they have written in in the realm of "fair reportage"
