A LAND clearing project, carried out by a real estate development company in upstream Hulu Sungai Tamu, is believed to have contributed to opaque, cloudy raw water flowing out of its catchment pond into Sungai Tamu.
The Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) said the discovery was made after investigations by the authorities following the incident at the Batang Kali water treatment plant, which had to be temporarily shut down due to the quality of the raw water at 1am yesterday.
“Luas will conduct compliance monitoring for the earthworks and compound actions to the premises if non-compliance is suspected to be the reason for the suspension,” it said in a statement today.
It also said that it will also monitor the situation tightly to ensure that Selangor’s water resources are protected. – Bernama, August 24, 2022.
