NAJIB Razak’s being jailed for graft should not be celebrated and people should treat it as a lesson and steer clear of crime, said Mohamad Sabu.
The Amanah president said that people should not be jubilant over one’s misfortune, instead they must strive to ensure similar events are not repeated in the future.
“We should not be happy when something bad happens to someone,” said Mohamad, fondly known as Mat Sabu, in a Facebook post today.
“On the contrary, we should use it as a guide and lesson, so that those of us who are still outside and free do not repeat this mistake.
“Make all forms of misfortune that befall others a lesson to all of us. Let’s not be arrogant,” he added.
Yesterday, Najib was sent to Kajang Prison after the Federal Court quashed his appeal and upheld his sentence in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case.
In a unanimous decision, the apex court ordered the Pekan MP to start his 12-year jail sentence immediately.
Najib will also have to pay a RM210 million fine, in default of which he will have to serve another five years in jail.
The former defence minister said Malaysians should continue to be determined to build a better nation and fight corruption continuously, so that Malaysia becomes a prosperous, peaceful country with integrity, now and in the future.
“We should strive and pray that Malaysia and its people are peaceful and have integrity, and that justice can be upheld as best as possible,” he said. – August 24, 2022.
