THE Prison Department rubbished claims that VIPs will be given special treatments.

Responding to a viral picture of a furnished, clean and spacious room, claiming to be prisons for VIPs, the department said it is fake.

“Stop spreading fake information,” the department said in a brief post on its official Facebook page, accompanied with “FAKE” slapped on the viral picture.

The viral picture did not name anyone in particular but it appears to be aimed at former prime minister Najib Razak and rumours that he will be accorded privileged treatment by the prisons department.

Yesterday, Najib was sent to Kajang Prison after the Federal Court quashed his appeal and upheld his sentence in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case.

The apex court ordered the former prime minister to start his 12-year jail sentence immediately.

Najib will also have to pay a RM210 million fine, in default of which he will have to serve another five years in jail.

Netizens are under the impression that Najib, as former prime minister and Pekan MP, would be given special treatment in prison.

Some questioned why Najib, despite being convicted yesterday, still had police escorts. – August 24, 2022.
