AFTER Najib Razak was sentenced to jail yesterday, the country must now hunt down fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, Lim Guan Eng said.

The DAP chairman said no expense or effort should be spared on Low – or Jho Low as he is popularly known – his family and associates connected with robbing Malaysians of billions in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal.

“The government should make a progress report on the status of capturing this most wanted criminal in Malaysia.

“Najib’s principal financial architect Jho Low remains at large. DAP urges the government to redouble efforts to nab this man, his family and associates connected with the RM52 billion 1MDB scandal, and bring justice to 32 million Malaysians robbed in the biggest heist in history,” the Bagan MP said.

Yesterday, Najib began his 12-year jail sentence at the Kajang prison after the Federal Court quashed his appeal and upheld his sentence in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case.

In addition to the jail sentence, Najib will have to pay a RM210 million fine, in default of which he will have to serve another five years in jail.

Lim said while Najib is facing his day in jail, it is manifestly unfair and a travesty of justice that Low, including his family and associates connected with the scandal, are allowed to roam free.

Low’s whereabouts are still a mystery despite efforts to track him down.

Former inspector-general police Abdul Hamid Bador said police knew of his whereabouts but the man is protected by an unnamed country.

However, Low has been charged in absentia in a Malaysian court, as well as in the United States. – August 24, 2022.
