4,856 Covid recoveries against 2,722 new cases, 11 deaths

MALAYSIA posted 2,722 new Covid-19 infections against 4,856 recoveries yesterday, reducing the number of active cases in the country to 35,551.

The cumulative national caseload since the onset of the pandemic stands at 4,762,552.

According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website, 11 fatalities were logged yesterday, of which three, all in Perak, were declared dead on arrival.

Besides Perak’s three deaths, Selangor reported four fatalities, while Johor, Malacca, Negri Sembilan and Sarawak reported one each.

The death toll stands at 36,166.

Of the new infections, Selangor reported the most cases with 879, followed by Kuala Lumpur (434) and Sabah (214).

Other states and territories reporting new cases were Perak (165), Sarawak (161), Negri Sembilan (141), Johor (107), Malacca (105), Kedah (103), Kelantan (102), Penang (101), Pahang (76), Terengganu (61), Putrajaya (57), Perlis (13) and Labuan (3).

Among the active cases, 34,068 (95.8%) people were under home quarantine, 31 (0.1%) at low-risk quarantine and treatment centres, and 1,384 (4.1%) in hospitals.

There were 68 patients in intensive care, 41 of whom required respiratory assistance. – August 24, 2022.
