2,078 new Covid infections, 10 deaths

MALAYSIA logged 2,078 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, a slight drop from 2,464 on Sunday, the Health Ministry said. 

With the new cases, the infection tally rose to 4.76 million, with active cases standing at 37,696. 

From yesterday’s cases, 2,066 were local transmissions while the remaining 12 were imported. 

According to the Covid-19 website, the country saw 10 more deaths yesterday, with three declared as dead on arrival.

The state with the highest deaths was Johor (3), followed by Negri Sembilan (2), Putrajaya (2), Kedah (1), Malacca (1) and Penang (1). 

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 36,155 deaths have been reported. 

Meanwhile, on hospitalisations, 1,409 Covid-19 patients were admitted, with 69 in intensive care units. 

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (95), followed by Sabah (70) and Johor (55). – August 23, 2022.
