UMNO division leaders gathered at the party headquarters for an emergency meeting this morning.

Party secretary-general Ahmad Maslan sent out the invitations late last night, with the agenda being to discuss a “very important matter affecting the party’s future”.

The meeting was scheduled to start at 11am at the World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

More than 100 Umno division chiefs are said to have gathered, along with party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and his deputy Mohamad Hasan.

Also seen at WTC are Pekan Umno division chief Najib Razak, vice-president Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Terengganu Umno chief Ahmad Said and Malacca chief Ab Rauf Yusoh.

While the agenda of the meeting has been kept confidential, it is believed to be on the general election as well as on matters pertaining to Najib Razak’s final appeal of the SRC International case.

Najib could yet fail in his appeal, with the decision coming as soon as tomorrow.

Umno leadership, especially Zahid, had been urging Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to call for a general election as soon as possible.
