Recoveries outpace 2,464 new Covid cases, 9 deaths

MALAYSIA logged more recoveries than new Covid-19 infections yesterday as 4,427 people recuperated from the virus, compared to 2,464 fresh cases.  

The new infections raise the national tally to 4.76 million.

According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website, nine deaths were registered yesterday, taking the national toll of fatalities to 36,145. 

Johor and Kedah logged three fatalities each, while Pahang, Sabah and Selangor had one each. 

As for the new infections, Selangor reported the most cases with 748, followed by Kuala Lumpur (505) and Sabah (225). 

Perak posted 195 new cases, Negri Sembilan (167), Johor (101), Penang (91), Malacca (85), Kedah (70), Pahang (66), Sarawak (62), Putrajaya (50), Kelantan (45), Terengganu (43), Perlis (9) and Labuan (2). 

With recoveries outnumbering new infections, active cases dropped to 38,918. 

Among active cases, 37,408 (96.1%) people were under home quarantine, 32 (0.1%) at low-risk quarantine and treatment centres, and 1,409 (3.8%) were in hospitals.

There were 69 patients in intensive care, 33 of whom required respiratory assistance. – August 22, 2022.
