THE parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) is independent and should not be used as political mileage by politicians, its chairman Wong Koh Woh said.

Wong was responding to a statement by former PAC chairman Nur Jazlan Mohamad who said the opposition was using the PAC’s report on the littoral combat ship (LCS) scandal as ammunition to hit out at Barisan Nasional and Umno.

The PAC is independent, do not challenge its credibility,” said Wong, in retort at Jazlan.

“If you want to find a political way out, be a little more creative, this has nothing to do with the PAC, leave the PAC alone.”

He said that the reports published by the PAC were not about his feelings, but based on facts.

“The PAC reports are based on the consensus of all its members who are from both sides of the divide and have the best interest of ensuring that the public’s money is accounted for.”

Referring to Jazlan’s comment that he was not a chartered accountant and therefore not well versed in the matter, Wong said the public should read the report put up by the PAC under him and those during Jazlan’s time to judge for themselves.

“The public can read the reports by ‘the wise’ Jazlan who was PAC chairman from June 2013 to July 2015 and the ones prepared by me ‘who has no experience in the administration’,” he said.

Wong said Jazlan he did a good job investigating matters such as 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) while he was the PAC chairman, but resigned the moment he was appointed as a deputy minister, before the report was completed.

“Jazlan should have used his expertise to help PAC and complete the report on 1MDB first. Show that you are different!

“After being appointed, his silence was deafening. Now you want to bring down the credibility of the PAC. As its former chairman, I thought you can be better,” he added. – August 19, 2022.
