MALAYSIA reported 15 coronavirus-linked deaths yesterday, the highest number of single-day fatalities registered since April.
The health ministry also reported 3,516 new cases yesterday, taking the case tally since the onset of the pandemic to 4.74 million.
The previous time Malaysia reported more deaths than yesterday was on April 20, where 16 deaths were registered.
Johor posted four deaths, Malacca and Perak (three each), Sabah (two), Pahang, Sarawak, and Selangor (one each).
The latest fatalities take the death toll in the country to 36,117.
Of the new infections recorded yesterday, Selangor logged the highest number of cases with 893, followed by Kuala Lumpur (878) and Sabah (318).
Other states and territories reporting new cases were Perak (296), Negri Sembilan (193), Malacca (164), Penang (123), Johor (112), Sarawak (107), Putrajaya (95), Kedah (92), Pahang (83), Kelantan (78), Terengganu (59), Perlis (17) and Labuan (8).
Active cases increased to 41,701 yesterday as 2,541 people recovered from the disease.
Among active cases, 40,034 (96%) were under home quarantine, 41 (0.1%) at low-risk quarantine and treatment centres, and 1,534 (3.9%) in hospitals.
There were 92 patients in intensive care, 49 of whom required respiratory assistance. β August 18, 2022.
