MOH reports 3,429 new Covid cases

MALAYSIA logged 3,429 fresh Covid-19 cases yesterday, along with nine deaths, according to the Ministry of Health’s CovidNow portal.

The new infections take the national caseload to 4.74 million, while one of the deaths was pronounced dead on arrival.

The national death toll stands at 36,102. 

The highest number of infections was in Selangor (1,082), followed by Kuala Lumpur (676), Sabah (273), Negri Sembilan (221), Perak (212), Sarawak (159), Malacca (151), Johor (129), Kedah (123), Kelantan (113), Penang (94), Pahang (70), Terengganu (55), Putrajaya (54), Labuan (12) and Perlis (5).

The number of active cases dropped to 40,741 yesterday, as 4,882 people recovered from the disease.

Meanwhile, Selangor and Pahang recorded two deaths each, while Malacca, Negri Sembilan, Perak, Penang and Terengganu each reported one fatality. 

Among active cases, 39,062 (95.9%) were in home quarantine, 32 (0.1%) at low-risk quarantine and treatment centres, and 1,563 (4%) in hospitals. 

There were 84 patients in intensive care, 58 of whom required respiratory assistance. – August 17, 2022.
