2,437 new Covid cases, 8 deaths

MALAYSIA continued to see a drop in Covid-19 cases for the second consecutive day as the Health Ministry reported 2,437 fresh infections yesterday.

The new infections are the lowest in more than a month, taking the cumulative number of cases to 4,737,984. 

According to the CovidNow website, there were eight fatalities linked to the virus yesterday, two of which were classified as dead on arrival (DOA). 

Johor, Malacca and Perak each reported two deaths, while Pahang and Penang registered one each. 

Penang and Malacca each accounted for one DOA case. 

Of the new infections, Kuala Lumpur registered the highest number of cases with 560, followed by Selangor (491) and Sabah (252). 

Other states and territories reporting new cases were Perak (172), Negri Sembilan (162), Johor (135), Kelantan (119), Malacca (106), Kedah (91), Penang (89), Sarawak (73), Putrajaya (73), Pahang (52), Terengganu (49), Perlis (8) and Labuan (5). 

Active cases further dropped to 42,203 yesterday as 3,658 people recovered from the disease.

Among active cases, 40,525 (96%) were in home quarantine, 31 (0.1%) at low-risk quarantine and treatment centres, and 1,566 (3.9%) in hospitals. 

There were 81 patients in intensive care, 50 of whom required respiratory assistance.
