3,045 new Covid cases, 5 deaths

MALAYSIA logged 3,045 fresh Covid-19 infections yesterday, a dip from the 4,334 cases reported the day prior. 

More than half of the new infections were reported in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur as they registered 1,061 and 619 cases, respectively. 

Sabah posted 259 cases, followed by Perak (221), Negri Sembilan (195), Penang (119), Malacca (108), Johor (98), Kedah (85), Putrajaya (63), Pahang (54), Sarawak (54), Terengganu (49), Kelantan (46), Perlis (12) and Labuan (2). 

The new cases took the cumulative number of infections since the onset of the pandemic to 4,735,547. 

Five people died from the disease as reported yesterday, taking the national death toll to 36,085. 

Of the fatalities reported, Kedah accounted for three of them, while Johor and Perak claimed one each. 

Active cases declined to 43,431 yesterday as 4,226 people recovered from the disease.

Among active cases, 41,759 (96.2%) were in home quarantine, 33 (0.1%) at low-risk quarantine and treatment centres, and 1,567 (3.7%) in hospitals. 

There were 72 patients in intensive care, 46 of whom required respiratory assistance. – August 15, 2022.
