MIC has asked the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership to let it contest winnable seats in the next general election, party president S.A. Vigneswaran said.

He said it is important for MIC to have elected representatives so that it can help solve problems faced by the Indian community.

“If MIC wins a state seat, it means we can sit as an exco. We do not expect Umno to be the only party that works and wins elections,” he told reporters after the 76th Perak MIC convention in Ipoh today.

“We want to help Umno and BN, and we want to be frontliners in a battle. So, that is our hope and intention.”

Vigneswaran said he has discussed the matter with BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as it is crucial for the coalition to learn from the mistakes made in the 2018 general election.

In that election, MIC won two of the nine parliamentary seats and three of the 18 state constituencies it contested. – Bernama, August 13, 2022.
