MOH reports 4,896 new Covid-19 cases

MALAYSIA logged 4,896 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, bringing the cumulative number of infections to 4.72 million.

According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website, 12 people died of the virus, half of whom were declared dead on arrival at hospital.

Selangor recorded 1,824 new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (1,046), Perak (374), Sabah (369), Negri Sembilan (253), Penang (169), Malacca (148), Kedah (144), Johor (120), Kelantan (99), Sarawak (89), Putrajaya (83), Pahang (80), Terengganu (37), Labuan (27) and Perlis (16).

Meanwhile, active cases rose to 44,622 yesterday with 2,979 people making a recovery.

Johor, Kedah, Pahang and Kuala Lumpur reported two deaths each, while Malacca, Perak, Penang and Selangor logged one fatality apiece, bringing the national death toll to 35,056.

Among the active cases, 42,942 (96.2%) were in home quarantine, 35 (0.1%) in low-risk quarantine and treatment centres, and 1,577 (3.7%) in hospitals.

There were 68 patients in intensive care, 37 of whom required respiratory assistance. – August 11, 2022.
