Segregated schools bad for unity, says Najib

Prime Minister Najib Razak says the segregation of vernacular and national schools has affected the country's unity, saying people are now studying in a 'compartmentalised' manner. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Najjua Zulkefli, February 24, 2018.

PRIME Minister Najib Razak has said that the segregation of vernacular and national schools has affected the country’s unity, and pledged to revamp the country’s education system after the 14th general election, according to reports.

“As you can see today, the Malays are in the national schools while there are also the SRJK (C), SRJK (T) and religious schools,” Najib was quoted as saying by The Star daily.

  • Does someone who do not know not to boast about eating quinoa in front of poor people have the intellect to understand this issue? Why there is no issue with unity between non-Mysls and non Malays but the problem comes withthiet preferred institution and frame of reference?

  • My take National school and National Type schools existed before but more and more Agama and Malays only schools has segregated the society. Today with GLCs, this gets worst as they only hire Malays and now he talks about segregation. This guy must be put of his mind or simple in siok sendiri land. So now he knows, go fix it....

  • We heard many times the politicians saying diversity is our strength. Now, if such strength cannot be harnessed and instead blamed for disunity, then it simply means the failure of the government I'm managing.

  • Mr. PM --- you are a joke. Under UmnoBN you have already created the disunity and segeregation with the myopic vision of ketuanan and now you are telling that someone else and somewhere else is not right and only after GE14 it shall be corrected by UmnoBN. It just set me to wonder how much more and further the damage will be created pre and post GE14 by UmnoBn. Enough said and the country will correct itself very well with you and UmnoBn out of the picture .

  • Will they open up MARA to non malays applicants then? And our universities? Will the entry requirements be based upon merits?

  • NEP started the stage to restrict scholarships and places of higher learning to non-Malays. NEP definitely causes disunity among different communities. Now Najib uses the excuse to stop non-Malays the right to vernacular schools for learning language of their mother tongue and culture. Mahathir was bad but Najib turns out to be worse.
