THE Immigration Department will give its cooperation to a newly formed special committee to investigate a high-ranking civil servant berating one of its officers in public recently.
Its director-general Khairul Dzaimee Daud said he cannot say much about the alleged incident.
“What I can say is that we will cooperate with them (the committee) in their investigation,” he said today at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
Last week, it was reported that an immigration officer at KLIA was berated in public by a high-ranking government official because no one was at the VIP counter to attend to the latter when he arrived.
The matter was denied by the Public Service Department (PSD), saying that its director-general did not verbally abuse an immigration officer at the airport terminal.
PSD said the accusations were baseless and malicious and intended to ruin the image of a government official.
It said the official had simply chided the officer for not adhering to the procedures for travellers leaving the country.
Following the incident, Home Minister Hamzah Zainuddin ordered the Immigration Department to conduct a probe into the incident.
“Even though the case has gone viral, we have to get clear information. I don’t want the claims to damage a person’s image.”
Yesterday, Chief Secretary to the Government Mohd Zuki Ali said the committee was set up following a cabinet meeting on Friday. Attorney-General Idrus Harun chairs the committee.
“It will conduct an in-depth investigation to provide due judgment in the matter,” Zuki said.
Other members of the committee include Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, Auditor-General Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid, and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Azam Baki.
Zuki said the committee will be meeting immediately following its formation. – August 8, 2022.
