PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) will support Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s government until the end of the parliamentary term, Ronald Kiandee said. 

The PN supreme council member said this was to ensure political stability.

“The general election will be called eventually as the parliamentary term will end next year,” said the agriculture and food industries minister at the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agro-tourism Expo (Maha) 2022.

“Till today, we are committed to supporting the government to ensure political stability in the country according to the time frame allowed by the constitution.”

PN is reported to be upset with the prime minister following his decision to call off a meeting with the coalition at the last minute.

The meeting was to have discussed PN’s unhappiness with the Ismail in the execution of the terms of an agreement of political cooperation between them, including on the appointment of a deputy prime minister from Bersatu.

Yesterday, Ismail said snap polls would be called if PN were to withdraw its support.

“If that (PN’s) support is withdrawn, then the elections must be held immediately.”

He also said that he was aware of talk that PN was planning to withdraw its support for the government.
