Covid-19 death toll rises to 36,003 with 8 deaths

THE Covid-19 death toll in Malaysia surpassed 36,000 as the Health Ministry reported eight fatalities yesterday, half of which were declared dead on arrival (DOA). 

The latest fatalities takes the national death toll to 36,003, of which 7,651 of them were DOA cases. 

Malaysia logged 4,413 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, taking the cumulative total since the onset of the pandemic to 4,697,213. 

According to the ministry’s GitHub raw data repository, Kuala Lumpur reported the most number of infections yesterday with 1,344 cases, followed by Selangor (1,129) and Perak (327). 

Other states and territories reporting new cases are Sabah (281), Negri Sembilan (263), Penang (230), Malacca (159), Kedah (123), Sarawak (107), Johor (95), Kelantan (93), Putrajaya (90), Pahang (89), Terengganu (48), Perlis (21) and Labuan (14). 

Of the eight new fatalities reported, Johor and Kedah registered two each, while Malacca, Negri Sembilan, Perak and Sabah logged one death each. 

Kedah, Malacca, Negri Sembilan and Perak reported one DOA case each. 

Active cases increased to 47,534 yesterday and 3,394 people recovered from the disease.

Among the active cases, 45,928 (96.6%) were in home quarantine, 23 (0.1%) in low-risk quarantine and treatment centres, and 1,531 (3.3%) in hospitals.

There were 52 patients in intensive care, 32 of whom required respiratory assistance.  – August 5, 2022.
