MALAYSIA saw a rise in new daily Covid-19 cases with 5,330 reported yesterday. 

This takes the cumulative number of infections since the onset of the pandemic to 4.69 million.

Ten new fatalities were recorded, with one classified as dead on arrival (DOA).

The national death toll is now at 35,995. 

Selangor and Kuala Lumpur were only the two states to report four-figure cases at 2,054 and 1,449 respectively. 

Other states and territories to report new infections were Perak (316), Sabah (277), Negri Sembilan (227), Penang (195), Malacca (169), Kedah (137), Johor (113), Sarawak (92), Putrajaya (81), Kelantan (72), Pahang (66), Terengganu (47), Perlis (24) and Labuan (11). 

Of the 10 new deaths, Selangor and Perak reported three each, while Johor, Malacca, Negri Sembilan and Pahang registered one each. 

The sole DOA case was recorded in Johor. 

Active cases rose to 46,523 yesterday as 3,075 people recovered from the disease.

Among the active cases, 44,885 (96.5%) were in home quarantine, 29 (0.1%) in low-risk quarantine and treatment centres, and 1,560 (3.4%) in hospitals.

There were 49 patients in intensive care, 34 of whom required respiratory assistance. – August 4, 2022.
