2,783 new Covid-19 cases, 9 deaths

MALAYSIA logged 2,783 fresh Covid-19 cases on the last day of July, taking the cumulative number of infections since the onset of the pandemic to 4,680,053, the Health Ministry reported. 

Nine fatalities were also recorded, of which four were declared dead on arrival (DOA). Death toll is now at 35,969. 

Of the newly reported daily cases, Selangor topped the chart with 826 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (473) and Sabah (252). 

Perak logged 242 cases, Negri Sembilan (234), Penang (216), Kedah (114), Malacca (114), Johor (89), Putrajaya (65), Sarawak (56), Pahang (38), Kelantan (32), Terengganu (18), Labuan (11) and Perlis (3). 

Meanwhile, Selangor reported the most number of deaths yesterday, with the country’s most populous state registering three virus-linked fatalities, of which one was a DOA case. 

Kedah, Penang and Sarawak accounted for one death each, all of which were DOA cases. 

Perak, Sabah and Kuala Lumpur also reported one death each. 

Active cases dropped to 45,306 yesterday as 4,482 people recovered from the disease.

Among the active cases, 43,753 (96.6%) were in home quarantine, 22 (0.1%) in low-risk quarantine and treatment centres, and 1,477 (3.3%) in hospitals.

There were 54 patients in intensive care, 32 of whom required respiratory assistance. – August 1, 2022.
