RENOWNED corporate figure Mustapha Kamal Abu Bakar died at the National Heart Institute (IJN) today, Astro Awani reported. He was 73.

His daughter, Felina, said he died at 7.45am.

“For now, my father’s body is still at IJN and the family is making preparations for the next process,” Felina was quoted as said.

It is learnt that the founder of the MK Land Holdings Bhd real estate company will be buried at the Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery in Kuala Lumpur today.

Born in Kampung Changkat, Pusing, Perak on March 18, 1949, Mustapha was a graduate of University of Malaya majoring in History and received a doctorate from Universiti Utara Malaysia.

He began career as an assistant district officer at the Selangor District and Land Office.

Later, he was appointed the Selangor Land and Mines deputy commissioner.

Then he ventured into the private sector, holding the position of managing director of Shah Alam Properties Sdn Bhd.

In 1983, he established Emkay Group of Companies, which offers affordable housing, especially to first-time home buyers.

Because of that, he was known as the “Affordable housing king”.

In August 1999, the company changed its name to MK Land Holdings Bhd after being listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange.

As of 2018, the group has built more than 60,000 residential, commercial and office units with an area of 10 million sq ft with a development value of RM20 billion. – July 25, 2022.
