CRACKHOUSE Comedy Club, which is in the middle of a controversy over insulting religious sensitivities, was vandalised today.

The Vibes reported that the club which is located within a row of shophouses in Taman Tun Dr Ismail was splattered with paint.

The club’s signboard, ground floor entrance as well as its stairwell was splattered with red and black paint.

A Hong Leong Bank located next to the club also saw its signboard vandalised by black paint.

An employee at the bank said that police had visited the area earlier in the morning.

The club has been mired in controversy after a woman was charged with insulting Islam for a skit she performed during a stand-up comedy performance.

Siti Nuramira Abdullah was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court under section 298A(1)(a) of the Penal Code after she was said to have caused disharmony among Muslims with her performance at the club in Taman Tun Dr Ismail on June 4.

She faces a maximum of five years’ jail if found guilty.

Crackhouse’ co-founder Rizal van Geyzel was also detained after videos of him touching on racial and religious sensitivities went viral.

He spent one night at the Dang Wangi place station.

Several police reports had been lodged against Rizal, including one by Bersatu’s associate wing which alleged that he had insulted the Malays.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Ahmad Marzuk Shaary said his department will not compromise on any actions that insult religion and threaten the harmony and unity of the people. – July 19, 2022.
