PKR members and leaders lodged police reports nationwide today against former prime minister Najib Razak over his alleged negligence in relation to claims made by the heirs of the Sulu sultanate.
This follows a call made by party deputy president Rafizi Ramli at its congress over the weekend to take Najib to task over his failure to prevent legal action to be taken against Malaysia.
Rafizi lodged his report at the Setiawangsa police station along with Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and former Port Dickson MP Danyal Balagopal Abdullah.
The former Pandan MP told reporters outside the police station that Najib’s government had failed to take the necessary legal action after halting the lease payment to the Sulu sultanate in 2013.
This had resulted in the heirs initiating their claims and seizing Malaysia-owned assets overseas.
“Najib should have taken the necessary steps to prevent any legal action against the government after it stopped making the lease payments to them,” said Rafizi.
“As the prime minister then, he should have known that it would have invited some kind of legal challenge.”
Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil lodged a similar police report against Najib at the Pantai police station.
Fahmi said he expected hundreds of police reports to be lodged by PKR members and leaders on the issue today.
“It’s hard to predict (the number) but maybe in hundreds.
“In Kuala Lumpur, at least a dozen police reports may have been lodged,” said Fahmi, who is also the head of the Lembah Pantai PKR branch.
PKR Youth chief Adam Adli also lodged a similar report with members of the wing at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters (IPD).
Adam said several more police reports were lodged at the Sentul IPD, Bandar Tun Razak and in Shah Alam.
“With this mobilised effort, we hope the authorities can investigate the matter,” said Adam.
Rafizi also shared a draft report that PKR members can use to make their police reports on his social media. – July 19, 2022.
