AIRASIA X (AAX), the medium- to long-haul affiliate airline of AirAsia Aviation Group, has to date successfully compensated more than 270,000 cancelled bookings caused by the pandemic in the last two years.

These include all RM499 Unlimited Pass holders, with a five-year travel voucher to the full value of the outstanding bookings.

The travel voucher can be used to book any AAX flights (airline code D7) immediately and for future travel to a number of exciting international destinations currently on sale, AAX said in a statement today.

“Many more routes will be added to AAX’s network in the future including Japan, Australia, Hawaii, New Zealand, London, Dubai and Istanbul this year,” it said.

AAX said it will continue to prioritise processing all remaining compensation entitlements, including for bookings made by travel agents in the coming weeks. All guests will be contacted via their registered email address.

AAX acting group chief executive officer Tony Fernandes said the airline has given back more than US$92 million (RM409.4 million) worth of travel vouchers for over a quarter of a million bookings to date.

“While many have supported us through thick and thin, I understand many others have expressed frustration with not receiving a cash refund for the cancelled flights.

“AAX wasn’t able to pay cash refunds due to the legal process of the restructuring, but we have worked hard to balance survival with paying everyone back with credit vouchers to fly again to exciting destinations now and in the future,” he said. – Bernama, July 15, 2022.

  • First of all Air Asia X has not actually "given back" US$92 million dollars. What they have done is "convert" the ticket price which the passengers already paid two years ago in to credit shells. So Air Asia X still retains the money with themselves. Secondly Tony Fernandes conveniently says that Air Asia X is unable to give back cash refunds to passengers due to the court ruling due to the recent court ruling that has converted passenger fares in to "creditors". However even BEFORE the court ruling Air Asia X had also refused to refund cash back to the passengers. So why conveniently blame the court ruling now? If Air Asia X really values the plight of their passengers who may no longer wish to travel after a two year hiatus and want their money back then just refund back the money! Stop looking for excuses!

  • I also currently have an issue with Air Asia where two of my flights were cancelled. For the past two years I have been sending constant emails to Air Asia and marcom and have been given the run a round by Air Asia regarding my cash refunds. Finally in May 2022 Air Asia agreed "out of goodwill to refund" cash for both my tickets. They even wrote to me asking for my bank details. Subsequently I received the refund for one of the tickets but for the second ticket I am still waiting for my refund which I was promised would be given in 4 weeks . I have sent more than 10 emails to Air Asia over the past 6 weeks asking about my second refund but Air Asia has refused to reply to any of my emails. Up to date I still have not received my 2nd refund. So what is Tony's excuse this time? Air Asia is not under any court restructuring as far as I know. So why am I not receiving my money back?
