Ministry thwarts attempt to smuggle subsidised cooking oil in Sabah

THE Sabah enforcement division of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs’  thwarted an attempt to smuggle 9,690 packets of subsidised cooking oil, worth about RM24,225, following a raid in Sungai Kolapis, Beluran, yesterday.

Its director, Georgie Abas said the enforcement team also seized 5,000 litres of diesel, worth  RM10,750, also believed to be smuggled out of the country, as well as a tank and a ship.

He said the raid was conducted with Battalion 20 of the General Operations Force after three weeks of surveillance.

A local, in his 20s, was arrested to facilitate in the investigation. The value of the seizures in the raid amounted to RM1,904,975, he said in a statement today.

The ministry, he said, was committed to implementing measures to regulate the supply and price of controlled goods and essential items such as chicken, eggs and cooking oil . – Bernama, July 13, 2022.
