2,417 new Covid-19 cases, 5 deaths

MALAYSIA reported a drop in Covid-19 cases as the Health Ministry logged 2,417 fresh infections yesterday, compared with 3,264 cases the day before.

Five fatalities were reported yesterday, of which two were declared dead on arrival (DOA), taking the death toll in the country to 35,816.

The new infections brought the case total since the onset of the pandemic to 4,598,391.

According to the ministry’s GitHub raw data repository, Selangor reported the most infections yesterday with 884, followed by Kuala Lumpur (642) and Perak (166).

Sabah logged 164 cases, followed by Negri Sembilan (138), Penang (112), Malacca (66), Johor (59), Kedah (41), Putrajaya (37), Sarawak (30), Kelantan (28), Pahang (28), Terengganu (15), Labuan (6) and Perlis (1).

Selangor, Perak and Johor reported one fatality each, while the two DOA cases were reported in Penang.

Active cases declined slightly to 35,758 yesterday as 2,536 people recovered from the disease.

Among the active cases, 34,526 (96.6%) were in home quarantine, 20 (0.1%) in low-risk quarantine and treatment centres and 1,164 (3.3%) in hospitals.

There were 48 patients in intensive care, 25 of whom required respiratory assistance. – July 12, 2022.
