PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang should ask his party’s secretary-general about the deal between Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Ismail Sabri Yaakob on the deputy prime minister’s post, Muhyiddin Yassin said today.

The Bersatu president was reported by Malay daily Berita Harian as saying that the agreement was drafted by Takiyuddin Hassan.

The PN chairman was also reported as saying that the agreement was seen by Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin and Ketereh Umno chief Annuar Musa.

“The prime minister signed the agreement, which was witnessed by Annuar and myself, on behalf of PN as well as several other party leaders who were present,” he was quoted as saying.

“Therefore, I think Tok Guru (Hadi) should check with Takiyuddin since he drafted the agreement. All the top PN leaders know about the matter.”

The issue of appointing a deputy prime minister arose after Muhyiddin recently asked Ismail to do so immediately.

Following that, Bersatu leaders revealed that there was an agreement to name a deputy prime minister from their party.

Hadi, however, had disputed this, saying that there was no official agreement between PN and Ismail on the matter, although the parties had discussed it.

Muhyiddin was also reported as saying that the said deal outlined the cabinet quota for all parties in the ruling pact.

“It is part of the agreement. That is why when Zuraida Kamaruddin left Bersatu, we felt that the position should be filled by a Bersatu MP,” he said.

“We are not asking for more. We are only asking for what was outlined in the deal.”

Ismail has not said anything about the supposed agreement so far. – July 11, 2022.
