THE Crackhouse Comedy Club in Taman Tun Dr Ismail has been ordered to close temporarily by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), following a controversial incident when a woman performing during an open mic session removed her outer clothing and hijab to reveal a mini skirt underneath.

Deputy Federal Territories Minister Jalaluddin Alias said the decision to close the club was to send a message that the ministry and City Hall would not tolerate behaviour disrespecting the sensitivities of religion, race or sovereignty.

“This incident was criticised by nearby residents as well as social media users, who were of the opinion that the video showed an act committed with the intention of smearing the image of Islam.

“DBKL has conducted an investigation and has taken the action of ordering a temporary suspension of the club’s operations effective immediately,” he said in a statement today.

In a 54s video uploaded to social media, a woman wearing a hijab and baju kurung said she had memorised most parts of the Quran, before she removed her attire to reveal a blouse and mini skirt.

In a post on Facebook, the club condemned the woman’s actions, and said that it had banned her and her partner from the venue, adding that it had also lodged a police report.

The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department said it has begun an investigation, while Bukit Aman CID would be investigating the incident for promoting religious enmity. – July 10, 2022.
