MALAYSIA will not impose another lockdown or movement restriction that could affect the well-being of the public and the country’s economy, Khairy Jamaluddin said today.
Khairy said that given the current economic crisis, Malaysia could not afford another lockdown.
“The government of Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has made it clear that we will no longer have another Movement Control Order (MCO) that can affect the well-being and economy of our people.”
“We are facing a very acute economic challenge, caused by global factors,” Khairy said in a press conference today.
Khairy today said that Malaysia has detected the highly infectious Omicron sub variant BA.5, which he claimed could spread widely and cause cases to increase.
He said that this newly detected Omicron sub variant could spark a new wave of infection.
Khairy said that with existing precautionary measures, Malaysia can avoid another lockdown.
“We have all the precautionary measures in place, be it vaccination, antiviral drugs and other health measures.”
“I believe with all these measures, God willing, Malaysia will once again be able to weather and overcome this new wave of Covid-19 infections.”
“So, let us all be safe from Covid-19 infection and emerge from this wave safely,” he said. – July 8, 2022.
