FOURTEEN individuals in the country have been identified as having casual contact with the 45-year-old Malaysian infected with monkeypox, currently living in Singapore, Khairy Jamaluddin said.

The health minister said another person residing in Singapore has been detected as close contact to the Malaysian.

“So far, there are 15 individuals who were in contact with the Malaysian individual,” he said at a press conference today.

“Of them, 14 are identified as casual contact and they are at low risk of contracting monkeypox because they don’t have any symptoms.

“One individual in Singapore has been identified by the republic’s Health Ministry to be a close contact and is currently under quarantine there.”

He said the individual, a male, was in Johor Baru on June 12 and 13 before going on a vacation to Penang with friends and family members from June 17-20.

He said the man did not exhibit any symptoms during this period.

However, Khairy said the individual started having symptoms when he went to Johor Baru again on July 2 and 3.

He said the man tested positive for monkeypox on July 6.

He confirmed that to date, no monkeypox cases have been reported or detected in the country. – July 8, 2022.
