THE number of fresh coronavirus cases have shot up as the Health Ministry reported 4,020 new cases yesterday.
The last time Malaysia logged daily cases in the range of 4,000 was on April 24, when 4,006 cases were recorded.
The new infections take the cases tally to 4,586,322 since the pandemic broke out in March 2020 .
Selangor, Perak and Johor each reported one virus death. Two of the deceased were dead on arrival.
The death toll climbed to 35,795, of which 7,591 were DOA.
Selangor recorded the most number of infections at 1,630, followed by Kuala Lumpur (1,049) and Perak (295).
Sabah posted 205 cases, Negri Sembilan (197), Penang (128), Malacca (107), Putrajaya (90), Johor (80), Pahang (62), Kedah (60), Sarawak (57), Kelantan (21), Terengganu (20), Labuan (12) and Perlis (7).
Active cases soared by 2,299 cases to 33,839 yesterday, as 1,718 people recovered from the disease.
Among the active cases, 32,617 (96.4%) were in home quarantine, 21 (0.1%) were in low-risk quarantine centres and 1,156 (3.5%) were in hospitals.
Forty-five patients were in intensive care, 23 of whom required respiratory assistance.
Yesterday Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin advised the public to take extra precautionary measures ahead of Hari Raya Aidiladha, in view of the rising daily caseload.
“Stay alert when visiting family members.
“Wear a mask when in an enclosed and crowded area, practice TRIIS (test, report, isolate, inform and seek). Do a self-test before returning to your hometown,” he said on Twitter. – July 8, 2022.
