New Covid-19 cases surpass 3,000 for first time in 2 months

THE Ministry of Health reported 3,561 Covid-19 cases yesterday, the first time the nation has recorded more than 3,000 daily infections since May 13. 

Meanwhile, Malaysia has not logged this many infections since April 24, when 4,006 cases were logged. 

Some 4.58 million cases have now been reported since the onset of the pandemic.

There were five fatalities reported yesterday, of which two were declared dead on arrival (DOA). 

This takes the death toll to 35,792, some 7,589 of which are DOA.

Selangor reported 1,341 infections, followed by Kuala Lumpur (994), Perak (243), Sabah (196), Negri Sembilan (160), Putrajaya (123), Penang (119), Malacca (97), Johor (72), Sarawak (55), Kedah (51), Pahang (38), Kelantan (37), Terengganu (17), Perlis (11) and Labuan (7). 

Selangor reported two deaths, while Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak and Pahang reported one each. 

Selangor and Kuala Lumpur recorded one DOA case each. 

Active cases rose to 31,540 yesterday, as 2,035 people recovered from the disease.

Among the active cases, 30,290 (96%) were in home quarantine, 26 (0.1%) were in low-risk quarantine centres and 1,184 (3.9%) were in hospitals.

Some 40 patients were in intensive care, 23 of whom required respiratory assistance. – July 7, 2022.
