FORMER MIC deputy president S. Subramaniam died this evening after being in coma for more than 10 years. He was 78.

His son, S. Sunther, confirmed the news to The Malaysian Insight.

“He passed away peacefully at 8pm. Funeral arrangements are being made now,” he said.

Subramaniam underwent two brain operations in 2011 but had not regained consciousness.

His doctors had termed the condition as persistent vegetative state, which could last for years.

Subramaniam is survived by his wife and three children.

He was a former Segamat MP from 1990-2004 and a former deputy minister.

His days in MIC were known for his bitter rivalry with the then party president S. Samy Vellu.

Sunther recently left MIC to join multiracial Warisan and is the party’s Perak chairman. – July 5, 2022.
