Muhyiddin says met PM over cabinet, DPM posts

MUHYIDDIN Yassin said he finally met Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob a few days ago to discuss cabinet posts, including the deputy prime minister post.

The Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman said their discussion was based on “PN’s agreement with the prime minister” on such appointments, and also appointments to government-linked companies (GLCs).

“We discussed government appointments, not just ministerial vacancies but also new appointments as stated in PN’s agreement with the prime minister.

“We are not asking for more than that, just new appointments to cabinet, the deputy prime minister’s post, and appointments to GLCs and statutory bodies,” Muhyiddin told reporters in Tanah Merah, Kelantan, where he launched PN Kelantan.

He was asked if he had managed to meet Ismail Sabri to discuss Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin’s resignation from the post in May after she quit Bersatu for another party, Parti Bangsa Malaysia.

Muhyiddin, who heads Bersatu, has said the post should be given to another Bersatu representative and had been wanting to meet Ismail Sabri over the matter.

When Ismail Sabri, who is from Umno, became prime minister in August last year after Muhyiddin lost majority support, he retained all the ministers who were from Bersatu in the cabinet.

Ismail Sabri now heads a government that comprises of Barisan Nasional, PN and Sabah and Sarawak parties.

He is under pressure from Umno to hold an early general election, which believes it can regain power through early polls. – July 2, 2022.
