TEN Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders have been summoned by police for participating in a peaceful protest against rising food prices yesterday.
They are to be present at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters at 10am on Monday to have their statements recorded, Fadhli Umar Aminolhuda from Amanah’s legal bureau said.
The demonstration, held after Friday prayers yesterday near Kampung Baru Mosque in Kuala Lumpur, is being investigated under section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
“The PH leaders will be accompanied by lawyers to have their statements recorded,” Fadhli said in a statement.
Yesterday’s protest was organised by Amanah and attended by about 60 people, who held up placards that read “BN = Barang Naik” and “Kembalikan subsidi barang makan”.
Among the Amanah leaders present were communications director Khalid Abdul Samad, vice-president Adly Zahari and Selangor exco member Izham Hashim.
The rally follows the government’s announcement on the new ceiling price for chicken, at RM9.40 per kg for standard chicken – a 50 sen increase from RM8.90.
The prices of eggs in the peninsula have also increased, as have prices for bottled palm oil cooking oil.
The new prices were effective July 1. – July 2, 2022.
