2,605 new Covid cases, 5 deaths

MALAYSIA saw a rise in Covid-19 cases as the Health Ministry reported 2,605 new infections yesterday, as opposed to 2,025 the day before.

The new figures bring the total number of infections since the onset of the pandemic to 4.56 million.

Five coronavirus-linked deaths were reported yesterday, with one declared as dead on arrival (DOA). 

The death toll is now at 35,763, with 7,586 of them DOA.

According to the ministry GitHub repository, Kuala Lumpur reported the most number of new infections yesterday at 865, followed by Selangor (730) and Sabah (163).

Perak registered 152 cases, Penang (138), Negri Sembilan (105), Malacca (102), Johor (66), Kedah (57), Putrajaya (57), Pahang (56), Sarawak (53), Kelantan (24), Terengganu (23), Perlis (8) and Labuan (6).

Meanwhile, of the five deaths, Malacca and Pahang reported two each and Selangor (1).

The sole DOA case was registered in Malacca. 

The number of active cases increased to 28,714 yesterday, as 1,633 people recovered from the disease. 

Of the active cases, 27,465 or 95.7%, were in home quarantine, 22 (0.1%) in low-risk quarantine centres, and 1,187 (4.1%) in hospitals.

A total of 40 patients are in intensive care, 24 of whom require respiratory assistance. – June 30, 2022.
