Don’t comment on Zahid’s VLN trial, Tommy Thomas told

AHMAD Zahid Hamidi’s legal team has urged ex-attorney-general (AG) Tommy Thomas to not make any comment or statement on the ongoing foreign visa (VLN) system trial.

The team, led by Hisyam Teh, in a statement today said the case is still being heard at the Shah Alam High Court and any comment can contain elements of sub judice.

“Prosecutorial discretion or indiscretion, constraints and defects in investigation are the issues being heard.

“All comments made by the former AG published by Malaysiakini in an article titled Lejar Ultra Kirana Sdn Bhd (UKSB): Bekas AG kata kertas siasatan tiada ‘maklumat mikro’ constitutes contempt of court.”

Thomas reportedly said case-related investigation papers did not contain the “micro information” needed to charge other individuals other than the former deputy prime minister.

Zahid is facing 33 charges of receiving bribes totalling S$13.56 million (RM42.9 million) from UKSB for himself as then home minister to extend the contract of the company as the operator of a one-stop centre in China and VLN system, and maintain the contract to supply the VLN integrated system.

On June 16, he pleaded not guilty to one amended corruption charge related to the system. – Bernama, June 23, 2022.
